If you are dying to buy a baby doll or some ninja sneakers for a child this December, now’s your chance!
There are lots of ways to help the Horton’s Kids this holiday season:
1. PURCHASE GIFTS FOR CHILDREN THROUGH OUR ELF PROGRAM: We will match you up with a family and give you their Christmas wish lists. We ask that you (and your friends) purchase a piece of clothing, a book, and a special item (such as a toy or game) for each child in the family in order to ensure they get comparable gifts. Sponsors can drop gifts off at the Capitol South metro stop on Sunday, December 16 at noon or at 110 Maryland Ave, NE, #207 on Monday, December 17 between 8am and 1pm.
If you would like to come to Wellington Park as the presents are being delivered from 4:00-6:00pm on Monday, December 17th, we would love to have you join the other elves and spread some holiday cheer.
Please e-mail brenda@hortonskids.org if you would like to buy gifts for children.
2. SPONSOR A CHILD/FAMILY: Sponsor a family's annual Wal-Mart shopping trip in which a mother chooses presents for her own child(ren)—it is by far our most popular program and the families say the people who empower them to shop for their children are "angels." Typically we allocate about $30/child.
Please e-mail julie@hortonskids.org if you would like to sponsor a child.
3. PURCHASE SHOES FOR A CHILD: Nearly all of our younger children walk around in shoes that don’t fit. We are hoping to shod their little feet this December so that they go back to school in January warm and ready to run all over the playground. To shop for shoes for a child from the comfort of your home, please visit the Horton’s Shoe List (Target.com List ID #0123993010698514). The shoes will be mailed to the Horton's Kids office and we will deliver them to the children.
4. CONTRIBUTE TO WHATEVER IS MOST NEEDED: Be it presents, clothes, food, health care, books, etc…there are over one hundred children in Horton's Kids with wide and varied needs. Since there are no other programs in their neighborhood, we try to serve as a safety net/fairy godmother/Santa whenever possible. This costs about $5,000 per child per year and there are currently 222 children on our waiting list.
Please e-mail julie@hortonskids.org if you would like to make a holiday contribution to the little angels.
However you choose to help, you will make a huge difference in a child's life and anything you contribute is tax-deductible.
Thank you all so much for your generosity—we all wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
