Director of Volunteer Services
Brenda Kvernen was raised in a small town in Wisconsin and is a 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her prior work involved designing buildings to better accommodate people with disabilities and other under-served populations. In January 2003, after years of volunteering and working with seniors and people with disabilities, Brenda decided it was time to start working with children again, and started volunteering with Horton's Kids. She was instantly hooked by both the weekly queso and the opportunity to make a tremendous impact on the quality of life of so many children with so much potential. She came on board in June 2004, as full-time Director of Volunteer Services.
As Director of Volunteer Services, Brenda is responsible for recruiting, training, and managing over 400 volunteers who make each of the Horton's Kids programs a success. She uses her knack for seeing the best in everyone to find a role in the Horton's Kids family for anyone who wants to get involved. She also has a passion for tap dancing, but hasn't found a good use for that skill at Horton's Kids yet.
