Horton’s Kids services 163 children in grades K – 12 from the Wellington Park apartment complex in the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C.’s Ward 8. Their neighborhood is considered a “HotSpot” by the Metropolitan Police Department and they attend some of Washington’s lowest performing schools.
Our “Army of Angels” forms the backbone of Horton’s Kids. They tutor children, take them on field trips, and even make Sunday lunches. To join the esteemed ranks, please visit our volunteering page.
Horton’s Kids is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose primary responsibility is the fiscal health of the organization.
Horton’s Kids is a 501(c)(3) organization funded entirely by donations. We welcome any and all contributions to the children including those from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government.
Horton’s Kids, Inc. is recognized by the Department of the Treasury as an organization described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Employer Identification Number, for income tax purposes, is 52-1755403. Gifts to Horton’s Kids, Inc. are deductible for income tax purposes and in the manner and to the extent provided by law.
The day-to-day activities of Horton's Kids are run by a small group of hard-working staffers. They try to get the children the services they need and make sure the volunteers have the tools they need to be as helpful as possible to the children.
