What We Do
Horton’s Kids empowers children growing up in one of Washington, DC’s most under-resourced communities so that they graduate from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. Our research-based programming combines rigorous academic supports with social-emotional development opportunities and health and basic needs services that work together to help children reach their full potential.
Academics
We seek to close the academic gap for each child by providing one-on-one tutoring, literacy intervention, homework help, and educational advocacy.
Social-Emotional Learning
Our programs offer children opportunities to broaden their horizons, find new interests, explore their strengths, and give them the chance to enjoy childhood.
Health & Basic Needs
We serve a neighborhood where the average family has an annual income of less than $10,000. Health and basic needs programs are critical in meeting the children’s basic needs.
Make A Difference
Horton’s Kids empowers more than 500 at-risk youth in grades K-12 to improve their academic outcomes, develop important character traits, and access healthy meals. The graduation rate for Horton’s Kids participants is twice the neighborhood average.

Success Stories
With the goal of seeing every child graduate from high school ready for college, career, and life, Horton’s Kids is having significant impacts on the children we serve. Here are just a few of their stories.

We’ve expanded!
On October 29th, Horton’s Kids began an exciting new chapter with the opening of our Stanton Oaks Community Resource Center in Southeast DC. The second Center, located about an 8-minute walk from our current Center, will serve children and families living in a housing community very similar to Wellington Park.
