Development & Volunteer Coordinator
Position Description
The Development & Volunteer Coordinator will play an essential role in Horton’s Kids’ impact by supporting all aspects of our development, communications, and volunteer efforts. Horton’s Kids has aggressive fundraising growth targets so that it can increase its impact in the lives of children. The Coordinator will play a key role in the success of fundraising, donor relations, and two key events: Home Runs for Horton’s Kids and Give Thanks & Give Back. Additionally, Horton’s Kids’ 500+ volunteers are the lifeblood of the organization. From one-time projects to weekly tutoring to leading fundraising initiatives, volunteers serve hundreds of children and increase Horton’s Kids’ impact. This Coordinator plays an essential role in recruiting, screening, and managing volunteers to ensure a high level of satisfaction for volunteers – and a high level of impact for children. This position is integrated into every team at Horton’s Kids and requires maturity, creativity, organization, and stellar customer service. Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Duties (55%)
Gift Processing & Database Administration
- In Raiser’s Edge, assist with end-to-end activities associated with financial and in-kind gift processing: donor record creation, accurate gift entry, acknowledgment letter production and mailing, etc.
- Process recurring gifts, workplace, giving platform, and match gifts
- Run database queries and analytics
- Maintain the integrity of donor records with consistent and accurate updates
Fundraising and Stewardship Event Support
- Maintain all gift, donor listings, and record keeping for two largest fundraising events- Home Runs for Horton’s Kids (1,100 guests) and Give Thanks & Give Back (300 guests)
- Run the solutions station for both events
- Coordinate multiple annual stewardship event components including invitations, RSVPS, décor, nametags, and promotional materials
Other Development Support
- Be a thought partner and integral member on the Development team
- Provide ad hoc support for various projects
- Assist with general office support including mailings, bill processing, ordering, and meeting preparation
- Interact and coordinate activities with donors, board members, staff, volunteers and participants
- Other duties as assigned
Volunteer Program Management (45%)
- Support Programs, Operations, and Development staff to continuously assess and define our ongoing volunteer needs across departments
- Lead monthly orientations and training facilitation for interested volunteers
- Manage the intake process for new volunteers: screen applications, backgrounds checks, and respond to new volunteer inquiries
- Ensure existing volunteers are current with paperwork, background checks, and other requirements
- Facilitate ongoing communication to current volunteers
- Organize and recruit volunteers for tutoring, field trips, mentoring, and one-time volunteer opportunities
- Attending programing to get to get to know children and volunteers
- Recognize volunteer achievements through thank you notes, monthly awards, communicating accomplishments, and appreciation events
- Maintain Salesforce CRM database of over 500 volunteers, and use this system to track volunteer metrics
Essential Experience and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
- At least 1-2 years of professional experience in a nonprofit or similar setting
- Customer service experience working with diverse constituencies
- Experience with using and maintaining a CRM database. Salesforce and Raiser’s Edge experience a plus.
- Outstanding communication skills, including writing and verbal
- Experience with public speaking and large group training facilitation
- High attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
- Capacity to take initiative and lead projects from beginning to end
- Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for social justice and children
- Sensitivity and respect for the issues facing urban children and families
- Desire to learn and grow as a nonprofit development professional
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
