PreK3-4 Summer Program Teacher
Position Description
Horton’s Kids is a community-based organization working to drive positive change in the lives of 500 children in grades K – 12 living in two of the most under-resourced communities in southeast Washington, DC, called Wellington Park and Stanton Oaks. In these neighborhoods, 80 percent of adults do not have a high school diploma, and the average annual household income is less than $10,000. With support from committed staff and volunteers, Horton’s Kids’ goal is to change the life trajectory of children by providing academic, youth development, and health and basic needs supports.
Details: Horton’s Kids is seeking ECE Summer Program Teachers to participate in our in-person Summer Camp for roughly 24 children in grades PreK3-PreK4. The class size is a maximum of 12 children. Each class will have one lead teacher and one assistant teacher. After a year of distance learning and time away from peers, our Summer Camp’s goal is to prepare kids to return to school; our strategy is to provide academic and SEL opportunities in the morning and enrichment activities/field trips in the afternoon. We know that building executive functioning and social skills are crucial to success. Our PreK3 and PreK4 program will use a centers-based approach; each center will focus on building developmentally appropriate skills. They will also have opportunities to engage with our enrichment partners and have time to expend physical energy outdoors.
Horton’s Kids Summer Camp is a 4-week program (June 28, 2021-July 23, 2021), Monday through Thursday from the hours of 8am-3:00pm. This year, we are operating out of the KIPP Douglass campus. During the week of June 21, 2021, we will provide 20 paid hours of training. This is an in-person, hourly position; the pay rate is $40/hour. We will provide bonuses at the end of camp for teachers who have perfect attendance.
