Position Description

Horton’s Kids is a community-based organization working to drive positive change in the lives of 500 children in grades K – 12 living in one of the most under-resourced communities in southeast Washington, DC, called Wellington Park. In this neighborhood, 80 percent of adults do not have a high school diploma, and the average annual household income is less than $10,000. With support from committed volunteers, Horton’s Kids’ goal is to change the life trajectory of children by providing academic, youth development, and health and basic needs supports. Position: Social Media & Marketing Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented candidate with strong communication and writing skills and social media proficiency. This position is a great fit for students or entry-level workers who are interested in a nonprofit career and want to learn more about how nonprofits communicate with their supporters. Interns will work directly with our programs team and have access to a variety of projects.


Social Media Intern Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages the Horton’s Kids @HK4KIDZ accounts and posts regular content.
  • Brainstorm campaign ideas and create a content pipeline.
  • Monitor various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok.
  • Analyzes analytics to gauge the success of campaigns.
  • Engages regularly with audiences to share and repost content and increase follower base.
  • Provide suggestions for improving customer experience on social platforms and internal processes.
  • Assists in creating performance reports, as needed.

Work Hours & Benefits

  • Available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 10a-6pm
